The cannabis market is currently filled with diverse kinds of products—ranging from drops and topicals, to pet products. As such, many CBD consumers experience the inability to decide because of too many options. That is when the real picture appears. Confusing similarities between products start competing with each other. Variety is foundational when alignment to your needs takes priority.

1.   Design a CBD Range Strategy and Format That Makes Sense to You, Not Confusion

Look at how people actually shop. A smaller pack may make sense for one buyer, while a retailer may prefer cartons because of the way stock moves through the business. Pouches can provide another format altogether.

For a CBD range, that could variations like:

  • Individual pouches for on-the go novice or commuters
  • Smaller CBD packs for portability or budget-conscious explorer
  • Larger packs and cartons for individuals who prefer long-range missions without restocking
  • Different product variations.
  • Formats suited to particular user environments

However, the goal should not be to try every possible combination. It is to make good use of the available CBD products that align to your needs.

If two packs sit next to each other and you can’t tell why they are different, choose one. Assessing labeling may solve it. A clearer product description might be enough. In some cases, the second variation may simply not deserve a purchase.

That is where good product planning becomes practical. Every format takes up stock, packaging and attention. Even outside CBD, familiar consumer products like Canadian Cigarettes demonstrate how much identity with authentic flavors matter.

2.   Sometimes the Name Confusion Is the Problem

A product can be perfectly straightforward until the label makes it sound complicated. This happens when variations start accumulating. One gets a new name. Another receives a slightly different description. That means as a customer, you are left comparing wording on packages. That’s where experienced retail staff can help you to differentiate which is which.

Keep note of the important information:

  • Product type
  • Pack format
  • Quantity
  • Distinguishing features
  • Relevant product information

However, good products should not make it harder for a customer to understand a package.

The same goes for online listings. You don’t have to open several pages just to work out the difference between two similar options, the problem is probably with the presentation rather than you as a customer.

3.   Clear SKUs Mean Less Work in Identifying Products

Although a SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) number system appears to be an internal commercial tool used by shops for inventory tracking, from the consumer’s perspective, a clear SKU is highly important for safety, efficiency, and certainty about what you are buying. It’s about making it easy to attach a unique identity to your orders.

4.   A New Product Is Not Always the Answer

New products are easy to get excited about. A supplier brings a new format. Another brand launches a variation. A retailer asks whether something similar can be added. Before long, another product is on offer. Take a look at what the new product can offer in line with your needs, but not in regard to just being a new entrant.

A few questions can save a lot of trouble:

  • Is there a genuine gap so you can jump?
  • Will the difference warrant price change?
  • Does the new product maintain the required quality?
  • Does the expected results justify a change?

Sometimes the answer will be yes. Sometimes sticking with your current product is the better investment. Leaving a new product out can be just as strategic as introducing it.

In essence, the CBD and cannabis market has moved past the stage of competing just by having a large quantity of products, and has now entered a stage of trust, simplicity, and customer education.

Nowadays, the strength of a store or brand is not measured by stuffing two hundred different products on a shelf or online. Instead, it is measured by how easily you as a customer can make a correct and safe decision, and receive your product intact without delays.
